There might be a tourism voucher for everyone in the audience this winter

There's a chance that everyone in Ireland could receive a €100 tourism voucher this winter.

Fancy a helping hand to treat yourself? You could be in luck if budget talks go in our favour later this month.

Speaking at a trial nightclub event last night, tourism minister Catherine Martin has hinted that a scheme to encourage spending in the off peak season could be given the green light if negotiations go well in the budget.

She said there is a lot to be looked at in the budget but confirmed "it's one of the issues they are looking at".

The Government’s Stay and Spend Scheme allowed taxpayers to claim a maximum of €125 back in tax credits on their spending in the hospitality sector between October 1st and April 30th but to qualify for the maximum amount, you had to spend €625.

However, due to the short window of time that the hospitality sector was open thanks to severe restrictions, the scheme was curtailed.

Minister Martin said due to this regular opening and closing of the industry, the scheme never gained traction and as a result she is now open to all options.
