The South East remains a charitable region

Almost 90 per cent of Irish adults donated to charity at the start of the year.

The three most commonly cited reasons for donating to charity were moral duty, the continued media coverage of humanitarian crises, and a friend or family member having personally benefited from a charity’s services.

Research published by Enthuse Ireland found in the first three months of 2022- nearly half of people gave to charities supporting Ukraine.

Other causes which received the largest charitable support from Irish adults were local charities in the community at 25 per cent, 24 per cent to mental health support services, 22 per cent to homelessness, 22 per cent to children's charities and 20 per cent to cancer research.

Over half of the adults surveyed said they are willing to participate in a fundraising event later this year now that Covid-19 restrictions have lifted, with fun runs and sponsored walks being the most popular options.
