Birds and Bees are the secret to happiness.
So says Waterford based company 'Connecting to Nature' who aim to promote biodiversity as well as helping the community get closer to nature.
The company sell products such as wildflower seeds, bird feed and other gifts that enable people to bring nature nearer to them, thereby boosting their mental wellbeing.
Speaking to Beat, Julie Power from the Faithlegg based firm explains how this is the case
"There's plenty of studies out there that show that increasing people's connections with nature boosts happiness. Being around more bird species generates as much satisfaction as earning €124 so you can even have a little balcony and hang out a bird feeder or maybe even grow a small pot of wild flowers and by doing that you are attracting wildlife to you."
Julie says studies have proven the link between bringing nature nearer and mental well being so by promoting biodiversity we are actually promoting our own happiness.
Birds in particular can play a big part.
"Last year, the European quality of life survey released findings that the happiest Europeans are those who see the most bird species in their daily life so even just when you're going out to fed the dogs you can put out some seed for the birds as well and just by seeing those extra few birds you'd be surprised by how good you feel" says Julie.
