Gardaí have launched an investigation after a 17-year-old girl was the victim of a serious sexual assault in Co Kerry.
The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning in a secluded area of Tralee Town Park, which is located just 10 minutes from Kerry Sports Campus where the Rose of Tralee took place.
The area was sealed off yesterday as Gardaí conducted an investigation, while it's hoped CCTV cameras located around the park may have captured the attacker.
The Mirror report that gardaí are following a line of enquiry that the teenager was targeted as she was talking home.
Commenting on the incident Ralph Riegel, southern correspondent with the Irish Independent, described the incident as a "serious sexual assault."
"It occurred just at the peak of celebrations of the Rose of Tralee festival, there would have been a sizable amount of people on the street [at the time]", he said.
"It appears that this girl was walking through the park on her way home when she was confronted and attacked."
Any witnesses are urged to come forward while gardaí continue to conduct an investigation.
