55,000 picknickers are making their way to Stradbally today to soak up the ultimate boutique festival experience.
This year's Electric picnic boasts 2,000 performers, new secret areas in the woods to explore, some of the best food in the country and of course headliners The Chemical Brothers, LCD Soundsystem and Lana del Ray.
An experience never seen before in this neck of the woods, Ali’s UFO with special effects will come alive at night as Gabrielle and The Soundclowns provide the dance beats, visuals and vibe that will make Picnicker’s hearts beat in time with the alien ship over the course of the weekend.
Keep an eye out for unusual and unexpected installations dotted around the woods, keep an open mind and enjoy the surprises promised by organisers.
We all know who the headliners are but here’s a few acts you *might not have heard of that will definitely be worth catching over the course of the weekend;
- Attention Bébé – 2.15am Saturday Night in Body & Soul
- Search Party Animals – 5pm, the Earthship Stage in Body & Soul
- Fields – 10pm Saturday on the Oxjam stage
- Rocstrong – 6.30pm Saturday on the Earthship Stage in Body & Soul
- All Tvvins - 2.30am Friday night Body & Soul
The Hazel Wood is a newly discovered woodland haven in the ancient Stradbally forest with a programme of mesmerising storytelling through interactive theatre, immersive hauntings, shadow puppetry, visual displays, commedia dell’arte workshops, visual art and much, much more! Songstress Cathy Davey will give an exclusive performance of her album on Friday night at midnight.
Hidden and lurking amongst the shadows the broken and somewhat dilapidated buildings of the long abandoned city that is Anachronica, were found looming through the tress. Whatever its purposes this area of forgotten land seems to have a hypnotic effect on people and will be sure to draw revellers from near and far to keep them dancing into the small hours at this power generating machine. From the duo that created the De-Programming machine (try it out in the main arena) Anachronica is their latest installation.
The ancestral lake is open each day until early evening if you fancy a dip, alcohol is not allowed in the swimming area and lifeguards are on duty.
Father Ted fans can enjoy 20th anniversary celebrations of My Lovely Horse, Trailer Park & My Lovely Ranch are throwing a full day celebration kicking things off with Father Alan’s Alternative Sunday Mass at 1.30pm. There’ll be a table quiz, the Lovely Girls Competition which includes ‘The Lovely Walk’, ‘The Lovely Laugh’ and ‘The Lovely Sandwich’ along with the final of ‘A Rubbish Song for Europe’ and then a Eurovision Disco to top it all off! There’ll be some familiar faces there too with Fr. Damo, Neill Hannon and Ms. Doyle being among some of them!
For all your festival updates a new app is live, it's designed to give users a completely immersive experience, with everything from stage times, to all the essential info for the weekend and personalised festival line ups.
