Around five thousand homes and businesses are without power this morning following Storm Gertrude.
High winds and heavy rain hit many parts of the country overnight - with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour.
The North and west coasts are the worst affected although there is 200 homes without power across Inistegoe in Kilkenny and Clonroche in Co Wexford.
Across the South East, there were no reports of damage overnight but Gardai are advising motorists to drive with care.
Met Eireann has two weather warnings in effect until around 9 o'clock this morning.
Forecaster David Rogers says things should start to improve later today:
'During the morning itself there will be a steady moderation in the wind and a weather front will bring showers through'
'There's no indications of any particularly strong winds throughout next few days but it will remain changeable and unsettled.'
