Storm Armand is set to bring tropical-style rain and humid conditions to the country over the weekend.
The first storm of the season was named yesterday by the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera.
Storm Armand is set to track northwards from the Iberian Peninsula over the weekend.
News of the intense low-pressure system follows a host of Status Orange and Yellow weather warnings yesterday in what was a day of heavy downpours, thunder and strong winds.
Chief Meteorologist at Met Éireann, Evelyn Cusack, said Storm Armand will bring more thundery rain over the weekend, particularly on Sunday.
The low pressure lying WNW of Iberia has now been named #StormArmand by the Portuguese MetService and is the first storm of the season to affect the peninsula.

While Spain and Portugal are set to bear the brunt of the storm's force, Ireland is still set to experience heavy thundery downpours and relatively humid conditions.
Cusack said: "Storm Armand has been named by our colleagues in the Portuguese meteorological office, and it won't give us stormy winds, but it will bring humid, tropical air over the weekend and further bands of heavy thundery rain."
