The message for motorists is to stay safe on the region's roads.
According to statistics alcohol is still a factor in 38% of all fatal collisions in the lead up to Christmas.

Weather conditions and speeding are among other factors.
Tipperary native Inspector Eddie Golden says "particularly with the weather conditions in the winter period we're advising people to make sure their cars are in proper condition.
Make sure the wipers are in good serviced condition, the headlights, rear lights and fog lights - all the lights are working.
A lot of roads are full of muck - from the salting of the roads - and it's very quickly your car will be covered in a film of mud which will affect your visibility when it comes to lighting up in the darkness hours."
