A number of South East councillors have hit out at Transport Infrastructure Ireland for refusing to reduce the speed limit on a section of the N24.
The speed limit on the 2 kilometre stretch of road west of Mooncoin in Kilkenny is currently set at 80 kilometres per hour.
However locals say the area, nicknamed "The Bends", should be set to 60 kilometres per hour.
The move has been backed by all six councillors based in South Kilkenny, but the TII says the current limit will be retained.
Councillor Pat Dunphy says the road will be re-aligned in the future, but it could be a number of years before work begins.
He also says locals living in the area have major difficulties exiting their houses because of the current limit.
"We're hoping that they might reconsider this, becuase we know how bad it is. I've actually invited some of the TII people down to have a look and try come out of some of those entrances themselves and to see what they think of it. I've tried it and it's horrendous, it's a nightmare coming out of some of those houses."
