The introduction of an average speed detector system on a section of the M7 has been delayed by up to a year.
The system was announced for the motorway between Junctions 26 Nenagh and 27 Birdhill in Tipperary last March.
The motorway has been analysed and data showed that approximately 40% of drivers exceeded the 120km speed limit on certain sections.
On top of that, the data showed that travellers were not appropriately moderating their speed in response to adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain or low road temperatures.
However the Irish Times reports it's still not operational 10 months later due to the need for further testing and calibration.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland says it expects the first prosecutions to begin to be seen in the first quarter of this year.
