The Spanish government is to begin the process of stripping Catalonia of its autonomous powers.
The Prime Minister says that the leaders of the regional government are to be dismissed and regional elections will take place within 6 months.
Mariano Rajoy also reiterated that Catalonia's recent push for independence has been illegal he also said he wants fresh elections to return the area to legal governance.
The region voted for independence three weeks ago, in a referendum that the country's supreme court said was illegal.
