A South East TD has called on the future Oireachtas Jobs Committee to prevent the region becoming an unemployment blackspot.
Waterford deputy David Cullinane made the comments following the loss of 47 jobs at Nypro Healthcare in Waterford yesterday.
The Sinn Fein TD served on the Oireachtas Jobs Committee during the previous Dail, but it's unclear if he'll be on it again this time around.
David Cullinane told Beat News a lot of work has been done to improve job creation in the region and it has to continue:
"We just have to keep building, have to keep supporting policies which will create jobs, support enterprise and build on the momentum of recent years.
"I don't want to be seen to be using these job losses as an opportunity to criticise government policy but I think what we need to do is continue to build on the progress that has already been made.
"There's an awful lot more to be done, and that needs to be done."
