St John's Community Hospital in Enniscorthy has become the latest hospital in the South East to introduce a smoke free campus.
It means that smoking will not be permitted anywhere on their grounds, including entrances, doorways, gardens and car parks serving St. John’s.
The tobacco free policy at St. John’s will apply to all staff, patients, visitors, contractors and any other person who enters the hospital buildings or grounds.
Kate Cassidy, Health Promotion Officer with the HSE, told Beat News: "We're aiming towards Ireland becoming a tobacco-free nation by 2025".
"We want to de-normalise smoking so that young people entering a healthcare facility don't think it's normal to do something that kills 1 in every 2".
