South East to benefit from €1.3 million  tourism investment boost

The South East is set to benifit from a €1.3 million cash injection thanks to the 2016 REDZ initiative.

The investment is set to both boost the region's national and international marketing budget and fund a number of infrastructure projects across Waterford, Tipperary, Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford.

In what is the largest investment, €399,000 is to be provided for The Munster Vales Project, which set to encompass the Comeragh, Galtee, Nagle, Knockmealdown and Ballyhoura Mountain ranges.

Other projects include:

  • Bagenalstown, Carlow: Tourism Multicentre (€100,000)
  • Inistioge, Kilkenny: Woodstock House gardens (€100,000)
  • Clonmel, Tipperary: Development of Ardfinnan Sports Hub (€200,000)
  • Bunclody, Wexford: Artisan Food network, plus festivan & events funding (€100,000)

A further €100,000 is to be spent on a cliff walk development for Dunmore East.

Commenting on the allocation for Dunmore East, Waterford City & County Councillor, Eddie Mulligan (Fianna Fáil), expressed his delight, noting the cross-community cooperation achieved to garner the required funding.

"The ultimate principle of the application was that the investment would bring more footfall all year round", concluded Cllr. Mulligan, referring to a potential tourism boost from the upcoming investment.
