The South East is set to benifit from a €1.3 million cash injection thanks to the 2016 REDZ initiative.
The investment is set to both boost the region's national and international marketing budget and fund a number of infrastructure projects across Waterford, Tipperary, Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford.
In what is the largest investment, €399,000 is to be provided for The Munster Vales Project, which set to encompass the Comeragh, Galtee, Nagle, Knockmealdown and Ballyhoura Mountain ranges.
Other projects include:
- Bagenalstown, Carlow: Tourism Multicentre (€100,000)
- Inistioge, Kilkenny: Woodstock House gardens (€100,000)
- Clonmel, Tipperary: Development of Ardfinnan Sports Hub (€200,000)
- Bunclody, Wexford: Artisan Food network, plus festivan & events funding (€100,000)
A further €100,000 is to be spent on a cliff walk development for Dunmore East.
Commenting on the allocation for Dunmore East, Waterford City & County Councillor, Eddie Mulligan (Fianna Fáil), expressed his delight, noting the cross-community cooperation achieved to garner the required funding.
"The ultimate principle of the application was that the investment would bring more footfall all year round", concluded Cllr. Mulligan, referring to a potential tourism boost from the upcoming investment.
