€135,000 was raised for the Solas Cancer Support Centre in October.
The annual run and walk took place over the weekend of October 8th and 9th, which saw thousands of people out and about in their orange to mark the occasion.
This year for the first time, Beat hosted a Schools for Life event that saw over 6,000 pupils in schools over the southeast ‘Go Orange for Solas’ on September 30th. This event alone managed to raise €12,000.
Speaking about the amount of money raised overall, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the chairty, Barry Monaghan said:
"We are very grateful to all the runners, walkers, fundraisers, and volunteers involved. The funds generated will be used to help fund our services, both in Waterford and in our west Waterford service, in 2023. During 2022 we have seen numbers engaging with the service increase and we are proud to be able to meet this demand and offer a broad range of support"
Meanwhile, centre-manager Tracy McDaid said:
‘The Run and Walk for Life would not be possible without the voluntary organising committee and the 200 volunteers involved over the weekend. We would like to thank our Media Sponsor Beat, our Event Sponsor UPMC Whitfield Hospital and our medal sponsor Eirgen. We are so fortunate to have their support in making the 2022 Run and Walk for Life such a success."
Solas offers free professional support services to those affected by cancer, their families, and carers in Waterford and surrounding areas.
