Rural Economic Development Zones Initiative benefits region

The Rural Economic Development Zones Initiative, also known as REDZ is funding which aims to stimulate economic development in rural towns and their hinterlands.

Announcing the grants yesterday, Minister Heather Humphries said the initiative encourages Local Authorities to work with local communities, business interests and other State bodies, to identify areas of economic need which can make better use of their local assets to generate economic activity.

Just over €5.3 million has been approved to 41 projects nationwide.

In the South East;

  • Dunmore East has been awarded €100,000 towards upgrading a cliff walk
  • Innistioge & Woodstock House in Kilkenny received 200,000 to develop gardens and a car park
  • Ardfinnan & Clonmel Sports Club has been approved for 200,000
  • Bunclody Carrigduff in Wexford is to benefit from 100,000
  • Bangelstown in Carlow will also recieve 100,000 while 11 other Redz areas in the South East will benefit from 400,000
