A tight-knit rural community has been left shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a toddler over the weekend.
The girl from Timahoe, Co. Laois passed away in Temple Street Hospital on Sunday after being rushed to Dublin from her home on Wednesday at around 10:30 am.
It is understood that the girl's passing is linked to a paddling pool accident.
Gardaí are currently treating the death as a tragic incident while tributes were paid to both the toddler and her family at a meeting of Laois County Council on Monday morning.
According to RIP.ie the "cherished and adored daughter" is survived by her "heartbroken parents Marie and Denis, much-loved sister of Ella, treasured granddaughter of Margaret and John & Margaret and Tom and her dog Ruben."
A memorial on RIP.ie goes on to say: "[She] will be sadly missed by her parents, sister, grandparents, aunts and uncles Sharon, Orlaith, Brian & Kelley, Liz & Stephen, Aisling, and the late Liam (Kealy), cousins Shauna, Eve, Darragh, and Conor, and extended family."
Friends and family have since posted online to express their condolences.
One wrote: "Our heartfelt condolences to Marie, Denis and the families on the very sad passing, our hearts are broken for you all and you are in our thoughts at this very sad time. Rest in peace."
Another said: "No words can be said. I'm heartbroken for [her] parents and sister. All in my thoughts and prayers. Fly high beautiful baby girl and watch over and comfort your Mam Dad and Sister."
A third commented: "Our deepest sympathy to Marie, Denis, Ella & [both] families. No words could help ease the pain of your devastating loss. Sending gentle hugs to you all, sleep tight."
A file will be prepared for the Coroners Court.
The girl's name has been removed in respect of her family's wishes.
