Risk of flooding as heavy rain expected to sweep across South-East

There is a risk of localised flooding across the South-East this weekend, as conditions worsen across the bank holiday.

A weather front carrying heavy rain and brutal conditions is set to move across the country today, settling in the South-East for the evening and into the night.

Met Eireann currently has a Status Yellow rain warning in force, which will directly affect Cork and Kerry.

During the evening, rain will gradually extend countrywide, with the potential of localised flooding.

Forecaster Andrew Doran Sherlock says the weekend rain will turn heavy and persistent.

"It will be persistent and heavy in places, particularly on high grounds - where we'll see some accumulations over 20 millimetres - it's moving across quite slowly but it is still quite an active front.

"It will be on the east coast by the late afternoon."
