There's finally some relief at the pump as petrol and diesel prices have dropped to their lowest level in fifteen months.
Petrol prices are at their lowest since September 2021, while diesel prices have dropped to their lowest level since the onset of the war in Ukraine, according to the latest AA fuel survey.
The price of a litre of petrol is now around €1.60 per litre, a drop of 17 cents compared to November.
The price of a litre of diesel is now €1.74, decreasing by 22 cents since last month.
Travel commentator Conor Faughnan says the lower prices are coming at a good time for consumers:
"Historically €1.74 for diesel is still very, very high but it's a good deal better than a couple of months ago."
He continued: "Given that we've now in a cold snap in the depths of winter when ordinarily there's big pressure globally on those prices.
"For us as consumers, definitely, if you've been filling your tank recently you will have felt a positive difference and that's a good thing."
