A record 895,600 people are renting in Ireland.
A report out today shows 18.9% of the country's population are now living in the private rented sector - which is the highest proportion since records began.
Dr. John McCartney, Director of Research at Savills Ireland has said that a quarter of Dublin's population is renting privately.
He said the increase can be linked to an “absolute scarcity” of property’s available to buy while the costs of home ownership are on the rise.
