Price of pints set to rise in 2022

The price of pints could be set to rise by around 20c a pint in the coming year.

Due to the increased costs of living, energy, and a hike in suppliers' prices, pubgoers can expect to pay more for their scoops this year.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Brian Foley from the Licenced Vintners Association said that the 'general increase' in the cost of living across the board will make it "difficult for pubs and the wider hospitality sector to avoid such a scenario."

"Suppliers are increasing their prices while energy costs are soaring." he added.

People have been flocking back to the social spaces since the surprise lifting of virtually all restrictions in January, however the last two years have undoubtedly taken their toll on those across the hospitality sector.

One South-East publican has confirmed to Beat News that while the price rises may not be as extreme as some establishments are introducing in Dublin, price inflation in their industry is running 'way ahead' of the national average.

They say that given there has been no price hike in pints in 2019, publicans may decide to introduce a larger price rise earlier to maintain prices throughout the rest of the year, when the cost of inflation is expected to show in the coffers.
