A tax on processed food such as frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets has been recommended to the Government by the Tax Commission.
The divisive report recommends that Government officials introduce a tax on processed foods in a bid to discourage people from buying them.
It is suggested that such as tax would also encourage the "reformulation" of such foodstuffs, pressing processors and retailers to return to the drawing board to offer healthier versions of food types currently considered to be bad for us.
The report fails to suggest a specific taxation rate for processed food, instead leaving the rate for government to decide.
Other measures recommended in the report include a highly-controversial additional electricity tax, a road usage charge, and road congestion charges.
Less controversial measures include a proposed local property tax for vacant dwellings.
It is suggested that measures such as this combined with a radical overhaul of the tax and welfare system will help fund Ireland's carbon-neutral climate transition hopes.
