Gardai believe a pensioner was already dead when he was taken to a post office in Carlow by two men who allegedly tried to claim his pension last Friday.
According to the Irish Times, foul play has been ruled out in the death of 66-year-old Peader Doyle.
The paper reports that a postmortem revealed that the 66-year-old man died sometime on Friday morning, but it's not yet clear how he died.
The painter lived on the Pollerton road, around 500 meters from Hosey's Post Office, the two men who carried Mr. Doyle in to claim his pension are in their 30s and were known to the dead man.
Mr. Doyle will be laid to rest today after a funeral mass at the Church of the Holy Family in Askea, Carlow.
