A pedestrian who died from injuries he sustained after being hit by a car at Upper Cork Hill in Youghal, Co Cork on Thursday has been named locally as Kevin Kenneally.
Mr Kenneally was one of the founding members of Youghal United AFC in 1985.
The club paid tribute to Mr Kenneally in a statement on social media. They said that the 68-year-old had "done so much for football" in the town.
“The club is saddened to learn of the loss of Kevin Keneally, past player and founding member of Youghal United, father of our senior coach Sean and grandad of Under-14 player Shay.
"No words can describe how sorry we are for your loss. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
"We hope you find peace and solace in your time of need. We pray that the days ahead bring ye peace and comfort. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam."
Mr Kenneally was transferred to Cork University Hospital following the crash on Friday evening. He died on site on Sunday.
The Coroner has been informed, and a post-mortem will be carried out.
Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the accident to come forward. The accident occurred at 6.20pm on Thursday.
Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area between 6pm and 6.30 pm on Thursday are asked to provide this footage to Gardaí.
