A paraglider had to be rescued from the Knockmealdown Mountains by the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association yesterday.
The callout came in at 16:43 as SEMRA members were managing another incident in the Comeragh Mountains.
By 17:04 a local SEMRA member was at the casualty site with Rescue 117 hovering overhead.
An off duty doctor provided initial essential medical treatment to the seriously injured casualty as Coast Guard R117 personnel and a National Ambulance Service (NAS) paramedic also arrived on scene and provided further medical attention.
The casualty was packaged onto a stretcher and raised on board the R117 helicopter with support provided by a SEMRA member.
The casualty was then airlifted to hospital.
