Wexford County Council expects the worst effects of Storm Ophelia to have passed through County Wexford by between 6pm and 7pm this evening, at which time our emergency response crews will mobilise and carry out an assessment of the effects of the storm.
We will concentrate our initial response on the clearing of National Routes, followed by regional routes. Depending on the weather conditions and the extent of the damage, we hope to have the worst affected areas cleared by midnight tonight, at which time crews will stand down, to resume at first light tomorrow.
Tomorrow Tuesday we expect to complete the clearance of fallen trees from regional routes and also to make significant progress on clearing of the county’s local roads network.
It is vitally important that the public continue to act responsibly for the remainder of this evening and tonight in relation to travel, and only make journeys where absolutely necessary. There are hundreds of hazards on our road network and in urban areas. These include fallen trees, downed wires, loose slates, damaged signage, windblown debris etc, and with darkness falling, these hazards will significantly increase in magnitude.
With widespread power outages, water supply in some parts of the county may be affected, particularly in the following areas:
· New Ross Town
· Ballycullane /Duncannon/ Arthurstown,
· Curracloe/Ballymurn/Screen
· Enniscorthy area.
Customers are advised to moderate their usage in the interest of conserving supply.
