New figures have shown the number of road deaths in Ireland so far this year is on par with this time last year.
34 people have so far lost their lives on our roads since January 1st 2016.
This is one less than the same time last year, when 35 people had been killed.
Last year the number of people to die on our roads was the lowest since records began at 165.
This compares to 472 deaths in 1997, while the worst year on record was in 1972 when 640 people lost their lives.
Despite the reduction in figures, Gardai and the RSA are continuing to appeal to motorists to slow down, with speeding still the number one cause of road fatalities.
Last year in the South East 19 people were killed in road collisions - 9 in Wexford, 4 each in Carlow and Tipp, 2 in Kilkenny and none in Waterford.
