NIAC (National Immunisation Advisory Committee) has recommended booster vaccines to be rolled out to almost the entire population.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has accepted the recommendations.
The booster vaccine programme will operate similarly to the previous vaccine programme.
NIAC has recommended a booster dose of an mRNA vaccine in order of priority for pregnant women aged 16 years and older, followed by those aged 40 - 49 years.
And for those aged 16 - 39 years, age cohorts will apply again in descending order by 10-years.
Up to now, boosters had only been approved for people over the age of 50, health workers, and those with underlying conditions.
