Five new homes are to be built for families across Kilkenny city and county, according to Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, John Paul Phelan.
The Housing Minister, Eoin Murphy, has given initial 'Stage 1' approval for the two new projects which will see homes constructed in Callan and Freshford.
Four new social houses are set to be developed in Blackstaff, Callan and a fifth house is to be developed at Barna in Freshford.
In July, Minister Phelan confirmed that Kilkenny County Council is to get an additional €1.229 million to build seven new homes close to the city.
The Carlow/Kilkenny TD says it's badly needed as the overall housing list in Kilkenny is growing steadily and this is yet another welcomed boost to the county as the local authority bids to house an ever increasing number of families.
"It's a huge issue at the moment across Kilkenny and of course across most local authorities in terms of social housing, obviously it's badly needed".
