The National Transport Authority is looking to purchase new information displays at bus stops that would show how much capacity there is on board.
The Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) displays would also include the availability of wheelchair spaces and whether the vehicle has low floor access.
The NTA says most displays will be needed at stops but others could be located elsewhere such as at libraries or office receptions, showing arrivals at a nearby stop or number of stops.
The current RTPI displays in place at bus stops around Dublin city display an estimated arrival time and final destination of the next bus.
