An eight-year-old girl and a 46-year-old woman are in a critical condition in hospital, after they were discovered unconscious at a house in County Clare yesterday.
The mother and daughter, believed to be Ukrainian refugees, were discovered at a property in Clarecastle.
The 8-year-old girl is believed to have sustained serious stab wounds in the incident and is fighting for her life at University Hospital Limerick.
The child is expected to be transferred to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin.
Her 46 year old mother is also believed to be in a serious condition in hospital however her injuries are not yet known.
According to the Irish Daily Mirror both mother and daughter are Ukrainian refugees, who were staying at the property when the incident occurred.
The paper reports Clare Civil Defence and interpreters assisted Gardaí at the scene in Clarecastle yesterday.
An incident room has been set up at Ennis Garda Station and an investigation has been launched.
