University Hospital Waterford's mobile cath lab is expected within three months.
The Health Service Executive has announced it's seeking tender for the €1 million unit next week.
HSE Director General Tony O'Brien says a "mini-competition" will be held for suppliers to get the contract.
Speaking in the Public Accounts Committee, Mr O'Brien said it will be "temporarily" deployed in Waterford "for a brief period".
Waterford TD David Cullinane said,"obviously having a mobile lab for a few months is to be welcomed as it will reduce the wait times for a planned work for a short period of time but it isn't a substitute for what is the real issue and the real need and the long-term need which is a full-time cath lab."
