A new mental health awareness campaign has been launched today in Wexford.
The ASK campaign was launched on the Street at Wexford County Council.
The campaign takes the form of a series of 4 posters.
Each poster depicts a person removing their happy-face mask to show their “unhappy face” underneath indicating their true feelings.
Each poster carries the tag line "ASK, one conversation can save a life."
Frank Staples Jr. is the son of the mayor of Wexford, and one of the organisers of the event.
He spoke to Beat News, and said mental health was of particular importance to the county:
"We have come up with five posters, all designed for those both with and without mental illness, to become more aware of their surroundings."
"Wexford has one of the highest rates of suicide in Ireland, so it really touches a lot of people."
"If you were to stop people on the streets of Wexford, around 80 per cent of people would say that they know someone who suffers or has committed suicide, so it touches a lot of people both directly and indirectly."
