The Government has been burying their heads in the sand as the price of energy continues to soar.
Those are the words of a Tipp TD as families in the South East face paying over €400 euro extra for electricity and gas this winter.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said some energy companies could go bust if the Government introduced maximum pricing.
However, speaking in the Dail, Independent TD Mattie McGrath says some energy companies have already upped their prices 25 times this year;
"So far in Ireland the government has buried their heads in the sand, there have been 25 different electricity price hikes, 25, across a number of companies. Different electricity and gas prices range from 14 different providers.
The Independent TD says this year's Budget must make changes to ensure prices don't rise.
"We are truly in an energy crisis. Families face paying 400 more for their electricity and heating this winter so the budget must take notice of this and indeed last years budget included a carbon increase for the next 9 years until 2030 that we can't even debate or discuss here.
So something has to happen to help these hard pressed people."
