A 35-year-old Dublin man has admitted trying to hire a hitman to murder a Canadian couple his wife had befriended online.
Bryan Kennedy, of Mount Tallant Avenue, Harold’s Cross, agreed to pay €10,000 to have them killed after he found intimate chats online between them and his wife.
In WhatsApp exchanges with a man referred to as Mr X, Bryan Kennedy agreed to pay €10k to have a Canadian couple killed.
Kennedy’s wife told him she didn’t love him anymore after he confronted her about intimate Facebook chats she was having with this couple.
He met with Mr X at a cost of €250. He was told that was a mate rate because the charge is usually €1,000 for such a meeting.
Kennedy handed over €8,000. It was his understanding that Mr X was going to engage a third party to kill the couple.
He struggled to find the extra €2,000 and went into hiding after Mr X began threatening him over the outstanding amount.
As it turns out, Mr X wasn’t who he claimed he was and the couple’s lives were never in any real danger.
Kennedy’s barrister said it was clear he had been taken advantage of at a time of desperation. He’ll be sentenced in January.
