A man has died after a wall collapsed on a construction site in Waterford City Centre this afternoon.
The man, aged in his 20s, suffered fatal injuries during the workplace accident just before 4pm on Parnell Street in the city.
He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford but was dead on arrival.
Separate investigations have been launched by gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority.
Mayor of Waterford City, Cllr. Adam Wyse said this evening "My thoughts go out to the young man's friends and family at this awful time, as well as his colleagues who would have witnessed what happened. He was a young man, out trying to earn a living and further himself, and for something like this to happen just before Christmas is absolutely tragic."
