Gardai have opened a murder investigation after a man was shot dead this morning in west Dublin.
A case conference is continuing at Ballyfermot Garda Station this afternoon - and there’s an appeal for eyewitnesses
A Dublin Fire Brigade crew found the man when they were called to the house on Thomond Road this morning, and alerted Gardai.
He had received multiple gunshot wounds - though it’s understood no shots had been heard by neighbours.
The victim a father of one in his forties, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbours have expressed shock and surprise - saying he was not the sort of person they would have expected to be targeted in this way.
Local Sinn Féin Councillor Daithí Doolan says Gardaí don’t seem to have a handle on criminals operating in the area - and has urged people to aid the investigation in any way they can.
The scene remains sealed off, and the street closed to through-traffic, as a forensic investigation continues.
Gardai in Ballyfermot are appealing for eyewitnesses and information.
