Longer opening hours for pubs and restaurants and larger crowds at events are being discussed by NPHET this morning.
Health officials are considering what recommendations to make on easing measures ahead of a cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Yesterday, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said 'a lot' of restrictions will be eased on January 31st, with a further easing about four weeks later.
Currently, pubs and restaurants are under an 8pm curfew, which came into effect from December 20th to slow the spread of the Omicron wave.
The curfew also applied to hotel restaurants and bars, except for overnight residents at the venues.
Among the restrictions in place over the Christmas period was a cap of 50% capacity on the attendance at outdoor events while wedding receptions were capped at 100 guests but could continue after 8pm however the midnight closing time still applied.
The Taoiseach says the government's in a good position to make a positive announcement on lifting restrictions.
He told a meeting of his parliamentary party last night Ireland's now "well beyond the peak" of the Omicron wave.
Cabinet is due to meet tomorrow to consider recommendations made by NPHET.
It is expected they will give a cautious go-ahead to the re-opening of society again, with full details of the plan to be sent to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly tonight.
