Abuse happens across all forms of relationships.
That's the message from the National Office for the Prevention of Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence.
Abusive behaviour can even happen in the most intimate of relationships.
Anne Scully is the manager of the Waterford Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre.
She explains more:
"Whether it be same-sex couples or heterosexual couples, abuse happens across all forms of relationships and happens in all ethic groups and all social classes.
"It's people that are abusive, whether that be physically, emotionally, psychologically, financially they are abusive toward their intimate partner."
