Less than 40 per cent of learner drivers passed their test in Nenagh test centre in Co Tipperary last year.
Nearly twice as many succeeded in Loughrea in Co Galway, which had a rate of 75%.
These new figures have been released by the Road Safety Authority, under the Freedom of Information Act.
Nationally, the pass rate in driving test centres last year was just over 53%.
But the rates varied significantly across the country.
The lowest was Nenagh, at 39.5%.
The next five lowest were all in Dublin - with Finglas, Charlestown, Raheny and two centres in Mulhuddart all below 46%.
The centre with the highest pass rate in the country is Loughrea in Co Galway, with three out of four people passing last year.
That's followed by Clifden, also in Galway, at just under 72%.
