Legislation to ensure Ukrainian refugees qualify for childcare payments

The Children's Minister is to bring forward legislation to ensure Ukrainian refugees qualify for childcare payments.

Around one quarter of the 28,000 people who have fled the war here are under the age of 13.

Current childcare support schemes are only available to Irish nationals as well as EU and UK citizens.

Minister Roderic O'Gorman is expected to raise the issue with a special subcommittee which is dealing with the influx of refugees.
