Kilkenny to become part of the South East Greenway

Another county is becoming a part of the South East Greenway.

The cycle track will incoporate the scenic countryside of South Kilkenny with development progressing at a rapid rate.

It will connect with New Ross, Co Wexford and Abbeylands, Co Waterford to with the aim of completion Autumn 2023.

Speaking to Beat News, Frank Stafford, Senior Engineer with Kilkenny County Council says more construction will begin soon:

"It's progressing at constructions stage. It's divided into a number of different lots, three lots are complete so works from Mount Elliot, the Red Bridge there just outside New Ross up as far as Glenmore are nearly complete under lots one and three.

Then works in Ferrybank up there coming into Waterford city are substantially completed as well and then we'll be going out to tender for lot five."

It's believed that upon completion, the greenway will be a major driver for the region's economy with options for links into towns around the county being considered.
