A Kilkenny Councillor is calling on the government to regulate horse drawn vehicles on our roads.
He's also calling for an outright ban to be implemented on sulky racing in the interests of animal welfare.
Local Fianna Fail Councillor, Andrew McGuinness, launched the petition earlier this month calling on the government to impose stricter laws regarding the issue.
As of now close to 20,000 people have signed the petition.
Mr McGuiness has written letters to the Minister for Transport, Shane Ross and Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed.
He's hoping that the Government leaders he has contacted will come to Kilkenny to discuss the issue.
