Kilkenny company lands major deal with West Ham

A Kilkenny based company has landed a massive deal with West Ham.

Payments company TransferMate will provide foreign currency exchange services for the English football club.

The company was founded in 2009 by Barry Dowling, Sinead Fitzmaurice and Terry Clune.

As part of the deal, TransferMate will also use various platforms available to West Ham, such as digital channels and stadium advertising, to promote its payment services.

Co-founder Barry Dowling told Beat News it's great to land such a recognisable client.

"Superbowl is next!!....No, it's great, really it's great.

I suppose we're a Kilkenny based business and we've grown from servicing largely an Irish market and expanded over the years into the UK which now accounts for about 40% of our clients. It's one of the biggest foreign exchange markets in the world with thousands and thousands of clients  every day making payments and studies in the banks.

So it's a great way to reinforce our brand one the ground in the UK and it's definitely going to be a template for other deals for sure."

The company currently employs 200 people and is a 24 hour operation from their offices in Kilkenny.

Mr Dowling also told Beat News their team is always in discussions with big name teams about various degrees of sponsorship and clubs that need to use their service:

"The fit with West Ham was great. The Club happens to do a lot of International transfers, they actually knocked on our door, we got into discussions and signed a deal.

So as part of the deal we're assisting them with their payments and cutting down on the fees the banks would otherwise be charging them.

In addition to that we'll also get brilliant branding all over the stadium so it's a real win-win."
