Kilkenny adult disability centre facing closure

One of the longest running centres for adults with special needs in Kilkenny is facing closure.

The Camphill Centre at Ballytobin in Callan was set up in the late 70's and currently has 19 residents.

The Health Information and Quality Authority is now engaged in a legal process with Camphill, because of what it says are "serious concerns" about "safety and the quality of service" at the facility.

In a statement from Camphill, they say that they are "working with HIQA on the inspection and reports".

They are now in the process of transferring the running of the centre to the HSE, and a meeting with residents and relatives of is due to take place later today in Callan.
