It could be another month before Ireland can reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by nearly 20 cents a litre.
The current rate is 23% - but the government has asked the European Commission for permission to reduce that to around 13.5%.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the commission is likely to make a decision by the end of April.
Kevin McPartlan, the Chief Executive of Fuels for Ireland, says the delay is unacceptable.
"I think it is a disappoint to Irish consumers and businesses."
"If we are to wait another 4 or 5 weeks for the European Commission to make a call, what is it they're waiting for?."
"They have known that this has been necessary for a number of weeks."
"Another 4 or 5 weeks isn't acceptable, you'd wonder what news the commission is watching."
