An Irish man in his twenties is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by an ambulance in Australia.
Eoin Sweeney, a locally "well-known" lad from Clonmany, Co. Donegal was struck by an ambulance at an intersection in Sydney in the early hours of Sunday morning last (12:15 am).
He was then rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Syndey where he was placed in an induced coma.
He is currently in a critical, but stable condition.
At the time of writing, Eoin's family is understood to be making their way to Australia to be by his side.
Aussie police are investigating the incident and appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Police understand that the ambulance crew were responding to an urgent call for assistance at the time of the incident.
A GoFundMe, which has been set up to assist with medical expenses and aftercare, has so far raised over $109,500 Australian Dollars or €70,000.
Eoin's GoFundeMe page reads: "Our very well-known and loved friend Eoin Sweeney from Clonmany, Co. Donegal was in an accident on Saturday night and his family are currently on their way here to Sydney, Australia to be by his side for recovery."
It continues: "He is currently in an induced coma in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and we are hoping to raise funds to help with all medical expenses and aftercare. Thank you all in advance for all your help."
