An Irish J1 student was left mortified when she failed to recognise the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and asked him if he was Irish.
Emma Kelly is a Dublin student working for the summer as a waitress in a restaurant in Chicago.
She had no idea that the casually dressed man in shorts who came in for dinner was in fact the newly elected Irish Taoiseach.
Leo varadkar comes into our restaurant in Chicago, first I ask is he Irish then I put him on a wait list and then I put him at a tiny table

However, the Taoiseach was happy to pose for a photo with Emma and a friend when she realised her mistake.

It is understood the Taoiseach is on a break in Chicago visiting his partner who is working over there.
Leo seemed to enjoy his dinner at Emma's restaurant as he tweeted her afterwards to thank her for the food and service.
Thanks Emma. The food & service was gr8. Enjoy the rest of your J1
