Urban Development funding is needed if Tipperary is to compete with Ireland's biggest cities.
That's according to the former Mayor of Clonmel, who says new Urban Development funding is essential to make the county an appealing place to live.
A number of Tipperary-based companies have announced new jobs boosts, but many of these will be filled by those outside the Premier County.
Fine Gael Senator Garrett Ahearn says new Urban Development Projects are of vital importance to the county.
He said, "we have so much to give in this county, we have so many big companies who are looking to attract people and provide jobs but also to develop town centers is equally important to attract people to come live in Tipperary."
It's predicted that new development at the Kickham Barracks will breathe some new life into the locality as it will open parts of the complex that many have never seen before.
The Barracks closed back in 2013 due to Defence Force cuts, which saw staff relocated to Limerick and Kilkenny.
However, with a five million euro plaza now on the way, Senator Ahearn says Kickham will once again be a centre point of Clonmel.
"As important as the barracks was to clonmel, there was a lot of people who lived there and in surrounding areas who actually never went into the barracks before.
The important thing from a government perspective and for me from living in the town and from being mayor of the town was that we were not just going to leave this closed and leave it to rot away."
