A dog in Kilkenny is lucky to be alive after being rescued by a good Samaritan.
The distressing incident occurred around lunchtime this afternoon when members of the public responded to alerts of a dog in distress.
The dog was reported to be struggling at the river edge at Gorebridge, when Patrick McCormack came to the rescue.
Mr. McCormack came to the dogs aid using a paddle board to get to the struggling animal and to retrieve it.
Boat Tours in Carlow, Kilkenny shared the news on their social media with a photo mid-rescue.
The post is simply captioned "A huge well done to Patrick McCormack of Pure Adventure Ireland for rescuing a trapped dog on the weir in Gorebridge today. Fair play big time. Good people out there. ". 
Thanks to Patrick's quick response time the dog was brought ashore to safety.
The Goodly Barrow Museum and Café, Goresbridge shared the following tribute to the rescuer and to everyone who helped in ensuring a safe return of their beloved dog.
"So a big thank you to Patrick of Pure Adventure, who rescued Maxi, to the family who brought the life buoy ring over from the other side of the river, to the woman who was out for a cycle and spent an hour or more helping, to Esther, Courtney and Jo from Goodly who did everything they could possibly do, to Charlie from Go with the Flow who went home to get his kayak to help, and to Clifford Reid who tagged Patrick! And to all of ye who offered help and shared the post. Thank you one and all."
